Overcharging means I don't favour MS here.

The ONLY advantage MS has ever had with HDDs is in making them easy to swap out for your average player. You don't even have to open the console. But you do open your wallet.

Two Worlds came out across two platforms though. The Witcher was exclusive to one and a new IP. Not that bad. LBP is in a similar situation and had similar success last I heard at the start of the year at about 1.3 mil. It really isn't that bad. It's just how a good, exclusive niche game sells, I suppose.

This looks really damn nice for an alpha build. My only complaint: QTE cutscenes in battle. I dislike those intensely.

Well, it is an alpha build. The voices are most likely placeholders.

This is blasphemy.

Pretty much.

Look at where DX10 is. Crysis is about the only game to really squeeze the power out of it. But you also have to consider that DX10 was tied to Vista OS, which bombed. W7 seems like it will be better adopted so maybe devs will have more cause to support it this time.

If all else fails, Crysis 2 is said to take advantage of DX11 so at least PC will have another show piece shooter.

"If the packaging was designed differently, we think it would have sold more," he said. "In fact on the internet many people have said that the Japanese version was better."

That's a strange thing to say. Essentially, who cares what people on the internet have to say? Not that our opinions aren't important, but people here and on other special interest sites are usually atypical of your average demographic. Not representative. Believe me, there a millions of p...

To sum up: the games are too old, in some cases too expensive, and 360 HDDs are too small AND expensive.

It's not really so convenient when you take that into account.

And as others have pointed out, it's not very competitive with even the simplest of alternatives. Kudos for the attempt, but it doesn't deliver.

On one hand they probably didn't mean any harm, but on the other it's a little disappointing that they being Americans don't recognize their own history. Do schools not really teach black history for that one month a year anymore?

The situation could have easily been avoided with a little foreknowledge.

Back then MS had the superior hardware and pretty good exclusive games that so-called "couldn't be done" on PS2 like Ninja Gaiden, Steel Battalion, Panzer Dragoon Orta, KOTOR, Jade Empire, Otogi etc. Totally different story this gen.

I might pass. They only SO I've really liked was 2nd Story. I've never really liked how SO is futuristic yet usually finds a way to strand the protagonist on a backwater planet for 80% of the game. What's the point?

Is SO4 any different?

Edit: HOW DID MY POST END UP HERE?

So I assume a review of Sony's customer service is forthcoming since that's the real title...

I'd rather just read the review when the guy is done dealing with Sony. Not this boring preamble to real news. So far it's utterly unremarkable.

Cmbre, I'm ignoring the first half of your comment. I already addressed that with a few examples. I'm not trying to debate what kind of person you are but, how you've presented your point.

Anyway, the fact that you have to ask if Sony has made missteps kind of proves my point doesn't it? But ok, here's one I've been talking about this entire time with others: BC.

And if you feel you've been misjudged, perhaps you can link me to a recent comment where you're taking S...

@Deadly

Pardon, but Sony does not support PC gaming more than MS. That's blatantly untrue. You are referring to games released. I'm talking about actual support.

Sony comes out with a few MMOS every once in a while and that's about as much as it will touch upon PC gaming.

MS delivers on different levels entirely as PC software manufacturer: DirectX, GFWL (despite how much I dislike it), and they made their console quite friendly to PC/360 multiplats whic...

I agree with Linux. There are many many factors.

It's not as cut and dry as MS and Sony holding PC back.

They don't, however, give a crap about PC gaming and they show that often enough. Outside of SOE MMOs, what the heck does Sony do for PC gaming? MS is actually much better with support here. Although they screw us over quite regularly with stuff like Alan Wake and closing down studios which used to develop for PC almost exclusively (Ensemble, ACES).

A...

Cmbre, I haven't put any words in your mouth. I've simply highlighted what your words convey (to myself at least). The semantics you're arguing over...are just rough paraphrasals of what you said originally. Do I really have to dissect your original statement sentence by sentence and explain back what you, the writer, wrote?

Maybe you should be more careful in how you frame a point if you don't want to be misinterpreted.

If it helps at all, you said you personally h...

I second this. A slim would only be a boon to the Japanese market. They aren't doing badly at all anywhere else.

Lack of true exclusives is eroding whatever faith I had in 360.

I don't have much faith that Natal will appeal to me either for many, many reasons.

@black: Well, I'm hardly going to pretend to be the expert in knowing what costs what in a PS3, but it seems to me you've already pointed out a half-decent indicator in the slim. The PS3 has been totally redesigned to sell at a lower price point. I don't think it's beyond Sony's innovation to have found a way to get the price down w/o sacrificing BC. I think BC removal was just their quick fix and perhaps they didn't have the time or inclination to find a way to work it back in. Personally, m...

I beg to differ.

Compared to last gen, Sony is not great with BC. As evidenced by the fact that typically only early adopters have the 'fabled' PS2 BC for PS3. That's far short of the full BC we've come to expect.

Of course, I'd be unfair to ignore MS which has had a pretty crap showing themselves in regards to BC. The end result is neither are really making any progress right now on that front.

@black: Honestly, I don't know how you blame everyone fo...

I don't find it too funny at all.

But in the end MS is ultimately at fault. I'm not going to say there's a right way to do business here, but there's the way that worked wonders for Sony, Sega, and Nintendo for decades now which is a strong staff of, you guessed it, first-party studios. How hard would it have been to enlist some good Japanese talent to support 360 exclusively in Japan instead of just giving out cash for timed exclusivity?

@cmbre:

Maybe PC gamers come off as elitist because we're constantly bombarded with crap like:

"PC gaming is dead"
"PC gaming is a rich man's hobby"
"PC has no games"
"No one cares about PC"
"Consoles are more powerful than PC"

Besides those gross misconceptions everyone seems to believe, what kind of article tries to tell us all to get along while calling PC gamers out as the guilty party? Seems to...
